Last night saw the first 6v6 Competition take place at Abbeydale for the Sheffield HC Women’s Performance and Development pathway players, and some fantastic hockey was on show throughout the evening.
The newly-introduced format is a fantastic opportunity for many players at the top end of the club to come together, create new friendships and connections, and challenge against other players in a relaxed yet competitive environment, to see who can finish with the most points in the evening. The winners are awarded a prize, and presented with the “infamous” Gold Cup!
The winners of last night's event was Team C, led by Katie Murfin, and consisting of Madde Hendry, Emilia Cutrona, Hannah P, and Ella B. They scored a total of 11 points, and had to hope for results to go their way in the last game to seal the glory, which was confirmed with a goal line clearance in the last 5 seconds! CONGRATULATIONS!
We have also introduced another trophy, this time the Golden Goblet, to celebrate the most successful GK during the Competition. Last night’s winner would be chosen by the least number of goals conceded, and the prize was shared between Alice Cullen and our “guest” GK James Waller (stepped in at the last minute, so thank you James). With only 4 goals conceded across so many matches, it was a fantastic effort by both players and very much sets the performance levels for the coming weeks ahead. CONGRATULATIONS!
Spectators are always welcome to come and watch, with the following Thursday evening dates set for 2024/25 season:
2024 - October 3rd, October 31st, November 28th.
2025 - January 23rd, February 20th, March 20th.
Congratulations again to all involved, many thanks to the players and coaches who gave their full effort throughout, and we look forward to seeing the Competition in a few weeks time. Best of luck to everybody playing tomorrow; bring the positive performances!
